Work In Progress (WIP) - is an newsletter brought to you by Conscious Talent that helps you keep a pulse on the intersection of inner work, consciousness, and new frontiers in how we work.

Every few weeks, we’ll highlight new job opportunities, funding announcements, breakthroughs in technology + research, and awesome people in our network we think you should know about.

This week’s Work in Progress explores how AI-powered therapy, continuous emotional support systems, and emerging theories of artificial consciousness are converging to redefine how we build, lead, and grow.

A new paradigm is taking form. Self-awareness is becoming a core professional skill. Leadership is increasingly defined by presence AND performance. The most valuable operators are those who can navigate both external complexity and internal depth.

Leader Spotlight

Grant Winns is a four-time exited founder and the CEO of Yuna Health, the first AI-native EAP replacement built for the enterprise, now deployed by Amazon, T-Mobile, and YMCA across 155 countries.

What problem is Yuna solving and what made you want to build this?

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) industry is quietly broken. Utilization rates hover around 3-6%, most employees don't know the benefit exists, and when they do reach out they hit voicemail, a 3-week wait, and a therapist who's never heard of them before. Meanwhile one in five American workers is experiencing a mental health crisis right now. Companies are spending real money and getting almost nothing for it and employees aren't getting help.

What made me feel like this had to exist was personal. I've been in therapy. I know what it feels like to finally decide to get help and then run into every possible friction point... the scheduling, the cost, the insurance question, the starting over with someone new. I kept thinking about everyone who doesn't have the resources, time, or willingness to push through all of that. Yuna exists because that friction is costing people their lives and costing companies their culture. We rebuilt the whole thing from scratch, available at 2am, no phone call required, no justifying yourself to a stranger before you get support.

What’s an unconventional belief that Grant holds?

That running from how you feel always costs more than just feeling it. Every coping mechanism, a drink, a scroll, the "I'm fine"... is just interest on a debt you're going to pay eventually anyway. I spent a lot of years choosing distraction over reflection, or impression over connection. I was often the most committed to appearing okay at exactly the moments I was the least okay. And the performance was exhausting in ways I didn't fully recognize until something broke.

The belief I've actually built my life around, the one I keep coming back to, the one I've had to re-learn more than once, is that the only path through anything is through it. That's not a novel idea. But living it, actually choosing reflection when every instinct says distract, is genuinely hard. And most people never do it. Not because they don't want to. Because the off-ramps are everywhere and they're very good.

Favorite transformational resource:

Great Therapy. I started because I felt like I had to, and I kept going because it changed how I build companies.

The biggest shift was learning to distinguish between decisions I was making from clarity versus decisions I was making from anxiety or ego. Once you see it, you can't unsee it. I became a better founder, a better manager, and honestly a better person. The practice of actually sitting with hard things instead of sprinting past them has carried into how I run Yuna Health.

The irony is that this exact insight became the thesis for the company. Self-awareness isn't a soft skill, it's THE skill. I want everyone to have access to the kind of support that changed things for me, regardless of their zip code, their insurance status, or whether they can afford $200 an hour.
